The artesian pool had been running significantly warmer than its operating temperature of 38 degrees and a large amount of town water was being used to keep the pool at its desired temperature.
"The reason for that is Mungindi's water is now 100 percent sourced from the hot artesian bore," Moree Plains Shire Council integrated planning and reporting manager Libby Carter said.
"To make sure we had as much capacity as possible for the town water supply, we shut down the hot artesian pool.
"No one was really using it anyway, but we're redirecting that water into the treatment plant to be able to use for the town water supply.
"We're saving about 23 thousand litres of water per day."
Mrs Carter said there is no exact end date for the closure, as they adjust to the bore water supply, with Level Five water restrictions being enforced in Mungindi this week.
"We're in the early stages of this 100 percent bore water supply for Mungindi," she said.
"We're just trying to ensure we've got sufficient capacity to support the town water supply.
"That closure will remain in place while those Level Five restrictions are in place.
"We just want to make sure people can turn on their taps and have running water."
The other pool at the centre will remain open and the pool will have free entry until the end of the school holidays.
