Deputy Commissioner Karen Webb, formerly of Boorowa, has been announced as the next NSW Police Commissioner, the first women to step into the role in the state's history. Deputy Commissioner Webb will replace Mick Fuller in the top job, who announced his retirement in July. Mr Fuller said the force will be in good hands. "I am incredibly pleased following the appointment of Karen Webb APM as Commissioner of the NSW Police Force," he said. "Commissioner-elect Webb is a highly experienced police officer, with 34 years of serving the community behind her. She has a strong record in operational leadership roles, and has made both an outstanding Region and Specialist Commander. "It was the depth and diversity of her experience which led me to promote her twice during my tenure - from Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner in 2017, and again to her current role as Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Services in July this year. "The future of the NSW Police Force - and its 22,000 employees - is in good hands." In a press conference on Wednesday morning, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet congratulated Deputy Commissioner Webb on her appointment. "Karen has served our state for nearly 30 years, keeping communities safe across New South Wales with absolute distinction," he said. "I believe she will do a very, very good job. She has the leadership skills and experience through her time in the police force to lead our state well during this period." Deputy commissioner Webb attended school in Boorowa before joining the NSW Police Force in 1987. Amongst other appointments, she was appointed the Corporate Sponsor for Women in Policing in 2013. She is also on a number of internal and external boards and committees including: Chair of the 100 Years of Women in Policing Committee (2015), Women in Policing Executive Committee and the Corrective Services NSW Women's Advisory Council. She was also awarded the Australian Police Medal.
