Korean barbecue - or gogi gui, translated as 'meat roast' - is considered one of the most popular forms of Asian eating in the world. Mr Choi said they'd recognised a demand for this type of dining in Wollongong. "It's time for Wollongong people to be exposed to one of the global trends - Korean barbecue," he said. "Korean barbecue is very popular in Sydney. "It's a global trend, and we wanted to bring a high-quality Korean barbecue to the people in Wollongong. "We want to introduce the culture and the food of Korea... And so far people love it." Mr Choi said their menu featured hot and cold dishes, fresh meats, as well as seafood options and salads. "It's a barbecue restaurant, but it's not an à la carte. It's a buffet, but we don't provide food at the buffet level. We provide a very good quality level of the meat." Korean barbecue refers to the Korean method of grilling beef, chicken or other types of meat. Dishes are often prepared at the diner's table on gas or charcoal grills that are built into the centre of the table. "People bring all of this fresh stuff to their table, we provide the charcoal, and they do the charcoal barbecue on their own table," he said. "They become their own chef for their table... That's the highlight of our restaurant (for customers)." Mr Choi said some Hellenic Club patrons were surprised to find a Korean restaurant there. "Some of the customers are just curious... They pass by and simply walk in, and a lot of them make a booking. "In Wollongong, we have a limited number of restaurants, so people I think are getting sick and tired of eating the same food. "So that is attracting people's attention." BBQ Town is open seven days a week. Read more: Red Hot Summer Tour's packed line-up to perform in Kiama next year
