“The tour guide will talk about eight different people buried in the early Presbyterian section at Moree Cemetery,” the local group’s Jeni Bruno said.
“Some were early pioneers, other came later to Moree, but all of them have played an important part in the development of Moree. Some of them still have descendants in the district.”
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
The tour will kick off at 2.15pm on Sunday, from the cemetery gates. While it falls on the same day as Father’s Day, it was originally organised to celebrate History Week.
The tour will offer an insight into some of the people who have shaped the town.
Rumour says that the son of notorious bush ranger Captain Thunderbolt is buried on site.
“He won’t be part of the tour this time, but one of the people we will visit will be former Moree mayor John Cameron,” Ms Bruno said.
The tour has been running since 2004, and always drawn a strong crowd.
Joan Hetherington has been with the tour since the beginning and she will lead the talk. Moree and District Historical Society’s Tian Harris will be a co-speaker.
Afternoon tea will also be provided on the day. The local group will also accept gold coin donations.
