Moree Secondary College year seven students learnt about different cultures in a race ‘around the world’ completing various tasks and challenges as part of their very own Amazing Race-style challenge day on Wednesday.

When the students got to school on Wednesday, June 6, they were taken to the hallway above the library which had been turned into a plane.
One of the teachers acted as The Amazing Race game show host, giving the students their challenge before they split into groups of four and raced around to eight different ‘countries’.
At each country they had to complete a task and document it.
At the end of the day, once the teams had visited each country and completed all their tasks, they used their photos and videos to create a video log, or vlog, of their Amazing Race.
This was the second year seven challenge day the school has run this year.
In March, the year seven students participated in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) challenge day, during which a meteorite had landed at school and they had to complete a number of tests to eventually send baby aliens back into space.
This time, the challenge was humanities based, with tasks involving English, history, geography, language, drama and arts subjects.
In Italy, students learnt to make fresh pasta; in Japan, they competed in sumo wrestling and played a game of jenga; in India they learnt a Bollywood dance and did henna painting; in the Pacific Islands they built houses that could float with the rising sea levels; in Brazil they made carnival masks; in China they told a year 10 student from China what they thought of the day and she wrote it in Chinese; in Egypt they had to solve a sentence written in hieroglyphics, which had letters missing; and finally, in the USA they had to find pathways from Canada to Mexico while learning about the states of America.
“Last time they had to complete tasks before they could move on to the next one,” coordinator Bethany Kelly said.
“This time, everything they do throughout the day will create the product at the end.”

Prizes were given to the team that ended up with the most bonus points on their race around the world, as well as for the team with the best vlog at the end.
Mrs Kelly said the students had a great time getting out of the classroom and doing something different.
“They have enjoyed it,” she said.
“It’s really nice seeing them all work together in different groups than they would have in normal class.”
Next term will be another challenge, this time more lifestyle based featured PDHPE and technology subjects.
