“It was unbelievable. The community spirit in Moree is amazing,” Mr Roberts said.
Warm weather, sunny skies and a perfect green greeted around 110 golfers last Thursday as they toured an 18 holes Medley Ambrose in honour of much loved and sorely missed Anthony Diprose.
Mr Diprose was the owner of Dipper’s Home Timber and Hardware before sadly passing away. Though, the local man was known for something much more than his hardware store.
“Dipper had a generous spirit and donated a lot to the golf club, local charities and community organisations,” Mr Roberts said.

For Mr Roberts, the day on the green was a chance to carry on Dipper’s spirit.
“Dipper donated a lot of money to Fairview and Gwydir Industries, so that’s where all the money raised will go.”
Around $8,000 was raised through a series of raffles and auctions, with Dipper’s wife Bec and his children helping to hand out the prizes.
“We had a $1,000 M&G Travel Voucher and a second prize, which was a $500 voucher,” Mr Roberts said.
Local artist Ian Reardon also generously donated a landscape painting for auction.
In a grand gesture, the bidding winner Peter Weal and Syndicate handed over the $1,800 Bec.
“It was also Bec’s birthday, so the club had a cake and a bottle of champagne for her,” Mr Roberts said.
Terry Swan, Dalla Johnston, Lance Olsen and Greg Smith took home the men’s trophies, and Lisa Slack, Trim Munro, Marg Boland and Prue Hunt took out the gong for the women’s game.
Though it wasn’t the trophies everyone was playing for, but to remember a close-friend.
“Normally the Moree Veterans Golf Group will hold a charity day in memory of one of our members, but Dipper was such a big part of the golf club,” Mr Roberts said.
For golfer Phillip Burley, he couldn’t have imagined a better way to pay respect.
“Every day was golf day for Dipper: he loved his golf.”
