Bulls topped at $7000 and averaged $5000 for the 15 sold, while 12 females reached a top of $4000, three times, and averaged $3250.
The Barwick brothers of Gravesend returned to Truro this year to secure the $7000 sale-topper Truro Playboy P039 for their self-replacing herd. Sired by Centennial Anzac L055, the 23-month-old bull was described as a big, long-bodied, bull with terrific Breedplan data, and was selected for his strength of muscle content.
The Barwicks also purchased the top-priced bull's mother, Truro Ruth J114, for $3000.
Two bulls hit the second top price of $6000, including Truro Picasso P007 bought by stud and commercial operators Geoff and Michelle King of Gunnedah, and Truro Peakhour P066 bought by first-time buyers the Arnott family of Tamworth, who were after a clean polled heifer bull.
South Australian first-time buyers Ben and Kaitlin Davies of Wild Bear Herefords, The Meadows, paid $5000 for polled sire Truro Posh P065, a son of Centennial Anzac L055, for their operation, while Newcomen Herefords of Ensay, Victoria, purchased Truro Prodigal P043 for $4000.
Curracabark Herefords near Gloucester, toured the offering before the sale and picked out the top end of females, buying three for a top of $4000, twice, and $3000 average. David Armour of Warragal, Vic, bought the other $4000 equal top-priced female.
Volume buyers included long-term clients the Woolaston family of Somerton who purchased three bulls, and new buyer Stuart Russ, Blayney, who purchased a heifer bull and two cows.
Truro principals Scott and Pip Hann were reasonably pleased with the sale, considering a number of their western clients don't have cows left.
Remaining females will be retained by Truro for future breeding.
Russ and Christene Smyth of Ray White Rural, Bingara, conducted the Helmsman auction that was run in conjunction with AuctionsPlus.
The 13th annual Truro Whiteface on-property production sale will be held on July 19, 2021.
