A man will face court on Tuesday after a gun and a knife were located in a car he was a passenger of during a vehicle search in Moree.

At 6.10pm on Monday, February 3, police attached to Moree Highway Patrol stopped a green Daewoo sedan on the Carnarvon Highway Moree for having an unsecure load, including an air conditioner hanging out of the open boot.
Police spoke with the two male occupants of the vehicle in relation to the traffic offence and during that conversation, the officers developed reasonable suspicion to conduct a search of that vehicle.

During the search, police located a 'balisong' knife, which is a prohibited weapon in New South Wales, and a shortened firearm which was concealed in the rear of the vehicle.
The passenger of the vehicle admitted ownership of both items.
He was placed under arrest and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and a prohibited weapon.
The man was bail refused to appear at Moree Local Court on Tuesday, February 4.
The driver of the vehicle was issued with two infringement notices for driving with an unsecure load ($457 fine and three demerit points) and being a resident for three months and not obtaining a NSW Licence ($572 fine).
