The installation of two new automatic security gates and close-circuit television cameras (CCTV) will help to further strengthen security at Moree Showground ahead of this year's Moree Show.

The extra security will be made possible thanks to a $95,000 state government grant, announced by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall.
Mr Marshall said the new gates marked the final stage of a five-year effort to improve security and safety at the important community venue.

"Rewind five years ago, break-ins and vandalism at the showground were a regular occurrence," he said.
"The boundary fence was in tatters, lighting was poor and the general look of the showground was pretty ordinary.
"Today though, thanks to some grants and some amazing work from volunteers and the Moree Show Society and the showground is something the whole community can be proud of."
The new automatic roller gates, which are being put in at the McElhone Street and Albert Street entrances, cap off an effort by NSW Crown Lands and the Moree Show Society to put an end to senseless vandalism.
"Importantly, I think CCTV cameras will act as the real deterrent for anyone who might consider running riot at the showground, as they will provide caretakers and the police with evidence needed to track down would-be criminals," Mr Marshall said.
"With 22 caravan sites and 10 camp sites, the showground has become a popular accommodation spot for grey nomads and these enhanced security measures will give them the peace of mind their belongings are safe when they are out and about visiting local attractions."
The new gates complement the new secure boundary fence which was finished last year and also funded by a $184,200 state government grant.
Mr Marshall said the latest funds would also allow the main power board to be upgraded and brought into line with electrical compliance systems.
"The showground is home to some of Moree's biggest events and it's vital when there is something on all users have access to a safe and reliable power supply," he said.
"The existing mains power switch is old and does have some asbestos in it so this will all be removed and a new box put in its place ensuring a more reliable supply of electricity.
"The installation of the gates, cameras and power upgrade are all expected to be complete for this year's Moree Show, held in April."
