Last year the showground received a $101,200 grant from the state government, to match the $83,000 received in 2017, to complete the entire boundary of the showground with the new high security, diplomatic-style fence, replacing the old and ineffective corrugated iron boundary fence.

"The completion of this fence really has improved the overall look of the showground and I thank the show society for sticking with the project and seeing it through to the end," Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said during a recent inspection of the new fence.

"The old fence was not only an eyesore, the corrugated sheets of iron were not secure and presented a serious risk to the public.

"People continually tried to gain entry to the showgrounds through the loose panels and there was potential for them to injure themselves and do damage to showground buildings and the property of tourists who camp there overnight."

Mr Marshall said the new fence complimented other improvements already made at the showground, making it more attractive for visitors and events.

"Over several years Show Society volunteers have worked hard to revamp the old stable blocks, install new toilets and upgrade the grandstand and other structures," he said.

"The Moree Showground has a lot of history and is well utilised by the community. I hope by making it more secure and visually appealing the facility will see an increase in caravans staying on site and new events rolling into town."
