New England police officer charged with drink driving after car allegedly hit a tree

AN OFF-DUTY police officer has allegedly swerved off the road and hit a tree while under the influence of alcohol.

The New England senior constable was driving south on Frome Street in Moree just after 11pm on Wednesday, June 12 when the incident allegedly occurred.

A 30-year-old woman notified police of the crash, when officers arrived they subjected the driver to a breath test that returned a positive result.

The driver was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station, where a breath analysis revealed she had a blood alcohol level of 0.099.

The senior constable has been charged with mid-range drink-driving and was issued a court attendance notice. She is due to appear in Moree Local Court on Monday, July 22.
