More than 30 people attended the barefoot bowls and AGM event, held at Moree Services Club on Sunday, February 3.
The AGM saw a number of changes to the committee, with some new faces stepping up to bring some fresh ideas to get young people excited about agriculture in Moree and surrounds.
Outgoing chair Fiona Norrie, who has led the group since it was first established in 2014, decided it was time to take a step back this year. Vice chair Meg Davies also decided to step down from the role.

Ms Norrie thanked the committee and all Young Aggies members for “being so wonderful” over the past five years.
“In 2014 the Gwydir Valley CGA approached Alice Curkpatrick, Amy Johnson and myself and identified the need for an ag-focused young professionals’ network, and tasked us with gauging the interest of our local young people,” she said.
“The response over the last few years has certainly shown that they were right. It has been an honour to see the organisation grow and change and solidify into one of our industry’s stand out examples of how proactive, engaged young agriculturalists can work together and provide real benefit to the next generation, while also giving back to the community through coordinated fundraising efforts.
“I find myself at a time in which I need to step down and allow the next cohort of Young Aggies to take the reins. To say that my role in this organisation has been fulfilling would be an understatement, and I am excited to see where our new committee will take it in the future.
“Our vice chair for the past two years, Meg Davies, is also stepping down, and I would like to thank her for her significant contributions over the years and endless guidance as we navigated the early years of YA.”
Casey Onus and Kate Lumber have stepped up to fill Ms Norrie’s large shoes, taking on the role of co-chairs. Kelly Legg is the new vice chair, while Alex Trinder has taken on the role of secretary and Emma Cain is treasurer.
A further 15 people are sitting on the general committee.
“We would like to thank the outgoing committee for their immeasurable and invaluable work over the years and welcome our new committee members,” co-chair Kate Lumber said.
“It's fantastic to see such a great level of enthusiasm heading into 2019!”
The aim of Young Aggies is to create an engaged and active network that serves to aid the integration of the next generation of professionals into the agricultural community through social and professional development opportunities.
At the AGM, the committee introduced their charter to the group, formalising the commitee structure and key objectives.
They also received some great feedback off the back of a very successful year, which included a sold-out Gold Rush Ball that raised $20,000 for Ronald McDonald House and the Young Aggies Rural Scholarship Fund and the launch of their Rural Scholarship Fund.
Their next event is attending the CSD Farms field day on February 20. They will be taking a bus to attend the Lower Namoi CGA field day from 12.30pm in Wee Waa, followed by the CSD Farms field day at 4pm.
Topics covered include residual herbicide trials, delayed flowering trials, Verticillium Wilt management and the new XtendFlexTM Varieties.
“It is sure to be a great day,” Ms Lumber said.
