The brothers participated in their first run back in October 2016, and have done 99 runs in the town, as well as a single run in Coffs Harbour.

Mitch and Sam have been involved in a local run group in town and attend the parkrun almost every week with their grandfather, Ron Clissold, who was a prolific athletics trainer in Moree for a long time. 

They’re both accomplished at athletics, representing their school in both track and field events. 

It’s an impressive achievement for the pair at such a young age, given the runs are 5km long.

Unfortunately, it was the last parkrun Mitch and Sam will participate in as their family moves back to Coffs Harbour.

Moree parkrun event organiser Annette Hadley said the boys have become quite well known at each race.

“They’re just a constant presence. They’re always around,” she said.

Not only do they participate almost every race, but they’re always happy to volunteer and help out.

“We have parkruns just for kids, where they’re always helping out,” Mrs Hadley said.

“Taking photos, barcode scanners, being power walkers who walk at the back.”

Mrs Hadley said they’ve grown quite the reputation and are always finishing near the front of their races.

“They’ve both finished first. The adults who attend are quite impressed with their dedication,” she said.

“It’s always quite funny when an adult’s life goal becomes to beat these two kids.”

“They’re great kids. We love them. We’re going to miss them.”
