“A drivers licence is of great importance,” Birrang’s Brad White said.
“It opens up so many employment opportunities: the first thing you’re asked when you go for an interview is if you have a licence.”
Mr White has been leading the workshops in Moree since the beginning of July, out of the Best Employment premises.

The RMS sponsored course has been opened to disadvantaged people across Moree, who have difficulty accessing driving resources. The program is aimed at teaching vital skills to help students become safe and legal drivers.
According to Mr White, around 30 students have gone through the program.
“It was a great turnout. Most of the people who signed up at the beginning have stayed on until the end.”
The students ranged from those seeking to obtain their drivers licence, to learner drivers, to p-plate drivers looking to progress to a higher echelon.
“Participants who already hold a learners licence are evaluated on their skills and given instructions to gain the confidence to pass their driving test with the goal of obtaining their provisional licence,” Mr White said.
The program provided students with a holistic approach, and taught both theoretical and practical classes.
“The morning sessions are designed to help participants not only pass the Driver Knowledge Test, but learn skills to become safer drivers. In the afternoon, we complete in-car lessons where the skills learned during training are put into practice,” Mr White said.
Mr White also mentioned that the program offered assistance to anyone with a state debt.
“If the student has a state debt, they are restricted from applying for their license. We try to help them out, so they can apply for a drivers licence.”
The program is now on the final leg of the five week course and will wrap up at the end of this week.
