Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall is encouraging member of the public to head to their nearest fire station on Saturday to gain a better understanding of the work local firefighters do each and every day.
“Our local fire fighters do a tremendous job providing a service the community we all hope we never need, but feel overwhelmed with relief knowing they are just a phone call away when we do require their assistance,” Mr Marshall said.
“Saturday’s open day is not just about having the chance to see the tankers and trucks up close, it’s also a great chance to learn more about the skills our firefighters have, what they do on a day-to-day basis and getting to know your local crew.”
Mr Marshall said the open day was also a chance for people to pick up some valuable home fire safety tips.
“Our local Fire and Rescue firefighters know everything there is to know about how to keep your home safe from fires particularly now that we are heading into winter and strategies to keep your family safe in case of an emergency,” he said.
“Every child longs to have the chance to see a fire truck close up, this open day is a good way to entertain the family while having a refresher on some basic skills that could make all the difference is a blaze were to break out in your home.”
Last year Fire and Rescue NSW Crews responded to more than 123,000 emergency incidents ranging from fires, chemical spills, natural disasters and search and rescue.
The doors will open at 10am and close at 2pm at the station on Albert Street.
