Barwon LAC Commander, Acting Superintendent Scott Tanner said property related offences continue to be of concern, particularly in the Moree area.
Police encourage residents to make sure their homes are secure even whilst they are home.
“Not securing windows and doors makes it easy for thieves to enter and steal handbags, wallets and easily accessible items,” Acting Superintendent Tanner said.
“It is pointless to have security screens and locks if they are not used – gone are the days when residents could safely leave windows and doors open.
“Secure your home – lock wooden doors, use jams in sliding windows and doors and secure deadlocks if fitted – all homes, especially those that are unsecured, may be a possible target for thieves.”
Proper security of your valuables also extends to your vehicles with a number of thefts being reported to police from vehicles which have been left unsecured overnight.
Police urge local residents to ensure all security steps possible are taken to ensure this festive season is not marred by thefts.
Residents are urged to report all suspicious behaviour immediately by contacting local police or in an emergency please phone 000.
