The weekend sees all the clubs of the area including Tamworth, Moree, Armidale, Gunnedah, Upper Hunter, Muswellbrook, Coonabarabran and Granite Belt come together to compete against each other in both a team and champion girl competition.
Teams consist of eight girls from the same club on the floor together trying to perform in synchronisation.
Moree had five teams compete with the seven and eight years and the 11 and 12 years taking out first place, and the five and six years, and nine and 10 years gaining second.
The 13 and 14 year team performed beautifully but were unfortunate to not win a place this year.
“We are so proud of the girls who performed in team. Team is so much harder than champion girl as each person has to be aware of the others and consistently perform together. Team is such a rewarding experience for us as teachers and for each child,” head teacher, Sam Cosgrove said.
Champion girl is each students chance to qualify for junior nationals held at the Homebush State Sports Centre in Sydney.
Each age division competes against the other girls from the area for one of five places awarded in order to qualify.
Moree have 11 girls who placed in the top five (five to 14 years) with 10 of those qualifying for junior nationals (six to 14 years).
“Our champion girl results were amazing with Grace Carter and Courtney Brazel qualifying for the very first time. We are so proud of each and every child who took to the floor, they did an amazing job. There were so many highlights to the weekend but having our entire five years, six years and 12 years competitors make the finals was amazing,” she said.
“As a not-for-profit club we struggle every day to make sure we are giving our students the best we can; junior zone reminds you of how worthwhile all the heartache is.”
This weekend the club has its ladies attend their zone in Coffs Harbour and then everyone will compete at their annual club competition at the Moree and District Services Club on Sunday, November 26.
