Mayor Johnson said residents wanting to recycle plastic and glass containers should take them to the "return and earn", located at the Coles car park.
He also urged residents to use a kitchen caddy, house chickens or invest in a worm composter.
"Keeping food scraps out of landfill helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions," mayor Johnson said.
"National Recycling Week serves as a reminder for people to review their recycling habits and to come together and focus on the importance of recycling and its positive impact on the environment."
