Landmark agronomist Casey Onus said given the dry winter, many growers will be considering planting cotton this summer.
“It’s opportunistic – we’ve got good subsoil moisture, we just don’t have surface moisture to get to,” she said.
“Cotton will be able to utilise that.”
However, all growers require a Bollgard 3 accreditation before taking delivery of seed.
“Growers need it as part of the licensing requirements to grow Bollgard 3 cotton, which is what most people grow around here,” Ms Onus said.
“We’ve got a lot of people looking at cotton off the back of the dry winter, but if growers haven’t grown cotton in recent years they might not be aware that they require accreditation before they can access seed.
“Bollgard 3 has only been out in the last year.”

Monsanto’s Bollgard 3 accreditation program is a valuable resource to growers and the wider industry in transitioning to the new resistance management plan (RMP) and to help them get the most of the technology.
The key elements of the RMP include a wider planting opportunity, reduced refuge area requirements, and changes in pupae busting requirements to better fit with farming systems without compromising resistance management.
Landmark Moree will be hosting the accreditation workshop in their boardroom at 4.30pm on Thursday, July 26. The event is free and open to anyone requiring accreditation.
Following the accreditation, Landmark Moree will also be hosting the 2018/19 Cotton Grower Night at Moree Golf Club from 5.30pm.
The event will feature a number of guest speakers including Monstanto’s Tom Luff, Cotton Seed Distributors’ Alice Devlin, Goanna Telemetry’s Tom Dowling, Adama’s Rob Lomman, and Loveland’s Dale Clark.
The event is free for all existing and potential cotton growers to provide them with information across the board including a review of last season and what’s new for this coming season.
Dinner and drinks will be provided.
RSVP is essential for catering purposes. RSVP by Wednesday, July 25 to Landmark Moree on 6759 1555 or moree@landmark.com.au.
