ACO Virtual is an interactive experience of music by J.S. Bach, Edvard Grieg, Roger Smalley and Astor Piazzolla, running on a loop.
It was created by filming thirteen members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra against green-screens, capturing audio and video for each individual.
“The exhibition features thirteen projections, controlled by the visitor with a touch screen device,” BAMM director Vivien Clyne said.
“This interactive feature of the show allows visitors to isolate individual musicians and hone in on particular parts of each composition, creating their own personal experience of the orchestra.
“It feels as though you are standing on a stage surrounded by the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s virtuoso musicians. I love watching the bows and fingers fly, and hearing the ACO’s Artistic Director Richard Tognetti play his priceless Guarneri del Gesù violin up close is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The ACO Virtual exhibition is further enhanced by free, online curriculum-aligned resources and activities for teachers, primary and secondary students to deepen their understanding before, during and after visiting the installation.
“ACO Virtual is an excellent resource for schools,” Ms Clyne said.
“Kids in regional areas rarely get the opportunity to see performances by our national orchestras and this is a fun, interactive way for them to experience a world class musical performance in their home town.”
During ACO Virtual, BAMM will be open late on the first Thursday of each month. The Art After Dark events allow visitors to explore the exhibition at their own pace and participate in a casual art activity with friends.
Art After Dark will be on from 5pm this Thursday, May 3 and again on Thursday, June 7. Cost is $5 per person, or free for Friends of BAMM (people can sign up on the night). Art After Dark is strictly an adult-only event
ACO Virtual opened on April 20 and will run until June 16. BAMM is opened Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Call 6757 3320 or visit www.bamm.org.au for more information.
