BAMM director Vivien Clyne said it was a great atmosphere.
“It was good, it was a nice crowd, lots got into it,” she said.
“It was a very relaxed, casual evening. It allowed people to have a better look at the exhibition. It’s a nice thing that people can come straight after work.
“It was mostly people that we’ve seen before but it was a good starting point. I would say it was a success.”
Most who attended the event participated in the optional art activity, which involved picking three items in the gallery space and drawing what people see, not what they know.
“Everyone had a good crack at it,” Ms Clyne said.
All feedback from the first Art After Dark was positive, with some suggesting the art activity be extended to the garden.
Ms Clyne said in future they’ll try to do more activities in the garden, allowing people to get “messier”.
She thinks they’ll also reduce the time from 5pm to 7pm to allow for people to get dinner afterwards.
“People were keen to come again; they liked the more relaxed atmosphere,” Ms Clyne said.
“The best part is, there’s no obligation to stay for any length of time. Some people came for 10 minutes, others stayed for three hours.”
Art After Dark will run on the first Thursday of every month, from 5pm to 7pm. The art activities will change each time, depending on the exhibition. The next event will be held on Thursday, May 3.
BAMM’s next exhibition, ACO Virtual, will open on April 20. ACO Virtual is a world-first interactive installation that lets audiences immerse themselves in the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s 360-degree virtual experience.
