On the first Thursday of each month, BAMM will be open late from 5pm to 8pm for those people who may not otherwise make it to the museum during the working week.
“We know that a lot of people can’t get here during the week, so we decided to open from 5pm to 8pm once a month,” BAMM director Vivien Clyne said.
“We’re excited to see what happens and who’s interested. We’re hoping to get a different crowd.”
Art After Dark doesn’t mean BAMM will just be open late – there will be wine and cheese and even the opportunity to get creative during a casual evening with friends.
“It’ll be very relaxed,” Ms Clyne said.
“We don’t expect people to come for the whole night, but to drift in and out with friends when it suits them. It’ll be a time for people to have a look at our current exhibition and do a casual art activity that draws on the themes of the exhibition.”
The current exhibition is spaced 2: future recall which draws together works made by Australian and overseas artists who lived and worked for extended periods in Western Australian rural and remote communities throughout 2013-14, developing new works based on an engagement with local residents, histories and landscapes.
Those who attend Art After Dark can take part in a drawing activity which encourages people to look at the gallery space in a different way.
“People can do as much or as little as they like,” Ms Clyne said.
Art After Dark is for adults aged 18 plus. The first event on Thursday will be free.
