Nominations for the award have been extended until March 23.
The Senior Citizen of the Year award aims to celebrate an individual over the age of 60 who has made a significant contribution towards the Moree Plains community.
"Recognising the important work seniors in our community have accomplished throughout their lives is extremely important as younger generations can learn from them and their experiences," Moree Seniors Festival organiser Lorraine Bartel said.
"Senior citizens are very humble about their accomplishments - I think these awards are a wonderful chance to spotlight their success and celebrate their achievements and contribution in the community."
Last year's winner, Aunty Mary Swan, was awarded for her work in Indigenous health services as a nurse at Moree Hospital and Pius X Aboriginal Corporation and after retirement continuing as an active volunteer member of the Pius elders group and Grandmothers Against Removals. Mary is a proud Gomeroi woman and a highly respected elder in the Moree community.
The winner of the 2020 award will be announced at the annual Seniors Festival luncheon at Moree Services Club on Wednesday, April 1. Moree Seniors Festival will run from Sunday, March 29 until Saturday, April 4.
If you know of someone who is deserving of Senior Citizen of the Year award, send a nomination to Seniors Festival Committee, Mrs Lorraine Bartel, 363 Gwydirfield Road, Moree NSW 2400 by March 23.
