Under its Community Partnership Program, Regional Australia Bank customers can pledge their support to a local community group or organisation. Regional Australia Bank then calculates the average annual balance of all supporters' accounts and donates one per cent of that total to the cause on the customers' behalf - it comes from the bank's surplus but is allocated according to customers' preferences.
"This Community Partnership program started with humble beginnings back in the 2008/2009 financial year where we gave away $9,029 across branch footprint," Regional Australia Bank New England regional operations manager Phil Williams said.
"The growth of the program since that time has been amazing where last year we surpassed the $1 million mark and we celebrated that amazing achievement.
"This year we are thrilled to announce we are giving away a total of $1,248,897.07 across Regional Australia's branch network."
This year Regional Australia Bank have topped that, handing out a total of $86,615.26 to the Moree community during a special presentation at Moree Golf Club on Monday, August 26.
"Just over 2800 supporters across Moree helped your amazing community groups to share in this incredible amount of community contribution," Mr Williams said.
"This result would not be possible without the support of the community and of course our wonderful local team, Jenny, Tileah and Leanne, who have been instrumental in driving this great result over the last year."
Fairview Retirement Village was the biggest winner on the night, receiving an impressive $25,668.26 - the largest recipient group for all of the Regional Australia network.
Moree Boomerangs took home $6,258.60, while Moree Guide Dogs Support Group received $4,175.92, Tourism Moree Inc banked $3,801.64 and Gwydir Daycare and Pre-School parent committee went away with $3,690.86.
