As the artist representing Australia at the 2019 Venice Biennale, Angelica Mesiti is increasingly establishing her reputation as one of Australia's most outstanding artists.
Working with the mediums of video and installation, and incorporating music and performance, her practice expands ideas of collective behaviour, social dynamics and human subjectivity through non-verbal forms of language and communication, exchange and adapted methods of expression.
Mesiti's 2017 work Relay League is BAMM's latest exhibition, and features three video installations which were inspired by the poetic final Morse code message sent by the French Navy in 1997 - 'Calling all. This is our final cry before eternal silence.'

In Relay League, Mesiti interprets the code's original dots and dashes through music, choreography, and non-verbal communications in an immersive three channel video installation.
"Her work talks about the way the body interacts with sound and music, so there's a lot of choreography and music throughout the show," BAMM director Vivien Clyne said.
"It's a very contemporary show. It'll be an interesting thing for people to come and look at. The gallery looks totally different - we've installed new walls to split up the three projections."
The Relay League exhibition runs from Thursday, August 1 until September 29. All are welcome to attend the opening on Friday, August 2 at 6pm. RSVP by August 1 to 6757 3320 or info@bamm.org.au.
