However, a student you might not have seen around town on their lunch break is Teri Kirkby who has been at Taronga Zoo in Sydney working with wildlife.
On Friday, June 21 Teri and her family travelled to Sydney in preparation for her week of work experience.
Throughout the week, Teri undertook many tasks, mainly revolving around care for Australian mammals.
"I have always wanted to work in a zoo because I've always had an interest in animals and love caring for them," Teri said.
Even though Teri enjoyed every part of her week, it is safe to say her favourite task came around on her third day when she got the chance to interact with Tassie devils.
"This was probably one of my favourite days because I've never seen a Tassie devil and it was a lot of fun," she said.
"I got to feed all three devils and play tug-of-war with one named Gunna."
Teri also got the opportunity to take care of koalas.
On the last few days of her time at the zoo, she cleaned their enclosures and fed them.
"I put fresh gum leaves into their enclosures," Teri said.
Teri thoroughly enjoyed her week at Taronga Zoo and has ambitions of coming back after school and working as a zookeeper.
Teri thanks Taronga Zoo for their time and dedication during her work experience.
