Fuel theft is one of the most common types of theft on farms.
NSW Police advise property owners to prevent theft by locking their fuel tank and ensuring storage tanks are located in a safe location, clear of equipment or other obstructions, away from the road.
Property owners are also advised to keep track of fuel purchases, close and lock the valves on all tanks, including overheard tanks when not in use, and turn off the power to the pumps. If there is an electrically controlled pump on the tank, ensure that the control switch is located in a locked building or house and that the electricity is turned off when the fuel tank is not in use.
