“It’s one of the largest amounts of money that we’ve raised,” Moree Race Club secretary Michelle Gobbert said.
The Pacific National Moree Cup Charity Dinner was hosted on Saturday night at Moree Race Club. It marked the fourth time the event has been held in a bid to raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
““While [the Westpac Rescue Helicopter] is something you hope you never use, you still want it to be available. A lot of people have a story where they know someone, either a friend or family member who has had to use the service,” Ms Gobbert said.

Normally the dinner is slated around February, however the hot temperatures led the race club to move it to a cooler September weekend. Ms Gobbert admitted there was vague concern how the shift in date would play out, especially in the time of drought.
“There were about 105 people who turned up on the night, which is really good. That says something: Moree has always been good in that respect, when times are tough people are still getting behind a good cause.”
Highlight of the night was special appearance from Today Show’s sport presenterTim Gilbert.
“Tim was on stage for a good hour, talking about his media career and taking questions from the crowd. He mingled really well,” Ms Gobbert said.
The Channel Nine personality surprised the audience during the auction when he threw himself into the mix.
“Tim put up the offer for a round of golf at the Lakes Golf Club with himself and four other people. It managed to go for $4,000,” Ms Gobbert said.

The sum made up a generous part of the overall $27, 600 haul from the auction.
To cap off the successful weekend, was the ensuing Pacific National Moree Cup Day on Sunday.
The race day drew a 300-strong crowd.
“Our numbers were up from last year,” Ms Gobbert said.
Moree trainer Peter Sinclair enjoyed success on the racetrack. His four-year old gelding Unpredictableharry placed third in the Beauty Matter’s Maiden Plate, and Marine Corps took out the gong in the McGregor Gourlay Class 1 Handicap.
Trainer Nathan Sinclair’s Pretext’s Dream placed second int he Muggleton Cranes Benchmark and Ready to Go scored second in the Clive Dixon Memorial. Trainer Doug Fernando added to the pool of wins, when Beau in Chains placed third in its race.
