Moree Secondary College students qualify for state after competing at regional cross country carnival

Seventeen students from Moree Secondary College qualified to attend the event. With a 5.30 am departure students were up well before sunrise. 

With a substantial number of roadworks and a quick pit stop for a McMuffin, students arrived carb-loaded with barely enough time for a strip and a stretch before the first event of the day.

The Coolah Golf Course has been a staple step in the path to state and national events, with students from as far as Tenterfield contesting for the top six spots required for state selection. 

Leith Bearman, Noah Humpheries, Vincent Coventry and Jesse James all competed in the 13s boys race, with all students clocking personal best times and Jesse James qualifying for state.

Aliyah Olsen, Courtney Locock, Tamzin Taunton and Tori Gallagher competed in the 13s girls group in possibly the largest cohort of the day.

All students finished the course, both pleased and amazed at how far and difficult it was. 

Kirby Andrews, Evie Smith and Ashlyn Tape all had to endure an extra kilometre in their event running the same distance as the boys for the first time.

Codie Gainey, Kaylib Taunton and Thomas Merchant contested the 15s age group, with a number of proud parents and exhausted teenagers congratulating one another at the finish line. 

Elka Devney duelled out a very challenging 16s girls event, finishing seventh to be the first reserve for the state event.

Hailey Swan competed in the 17s girls event and with very minimal training on typical flat Moree surfaces finished third in her age group.

Last but by no means least, Sam Pritchard rounded out the MSC contestants. Sam had to endure two laps of the course for his 6km event. Sam finished an outstanding sixth to also qualify for state. 

Overall Moree Secondary College was well represented with good athletes and wonderful behaviour.
