One of these is Maria Fitzgerald, who has been taken in by the wonderful girls at Balo Square Hairdressing for one week before the salon’s impending closure.
“I’m really enjoying work experience,” Maria said
“It’s been really busy because this is their last week so it’s been both really good and sad.”
Maria has been working at the hairdressers for the past six months after school and sometimes on weekends so it’s hitting home for her to see it come to an end.
“Narelle is so amazing and I’ll miss her so much,” she said
“She took me in and has helped me integrate into the Moree community after coming from the Philippines.”
Hairdressing is very much a future career path for Maria although she is still keeping her options open.
“Half of me wants to be a hairdresser and the other half has no idea,” she said
“I want to do something I love and enjoy that’ll show my creativity and free spirit.”
Work experience has helped Maria build her confidence and have a ‘hands-on’ experience within the workforce.
“By doing work experience you get the chance to express and discover your talent outside of the classroom,” she said.
Maria has learnt so much from the girls at Balo Square Hairdressers and said she’d miss them all so much.
“They have inspired me to be who I am and support me to find a good job,” she said.
While she is sad that her time at Balo Square Hairdressers is coming to an end, Maria is is extremely grateful for everything the girls have done for her.
