Students at Bellata Public School have been busily preparing their items for the Narrabri Eisteddfod held last month.

Under the direction of staff, the children have been practising and rehearsing their songs for the musical section and their poems for the speech and drama section of the Eisteddfod.
This year’s musical entry included all students from Kinder to Year Six. All students then recited individual poetry items during the second week of the Eisteddfod.

On Wednesday May 23 the whole school travelled by bus into Narrabri to perform their musical numbers.
The students took to the stage in the Small Schools Choir singing ‘The Aardvark’ and ‘A New Day is Dawning’. They did a fabulous job and were awarded first place.
The Small School Ensemble then took to the stage.
The group comprised of six students – Tyler Stolzenberg, Audrey Cooper, Ruby Stewart, Gordie Cooper, Allira Stolzenberg and Jack Farr. They sang ‘The New and the Old’ on their way to second place.
After a few days break, students were back in Eisteddfod mode and ready for the Speech and Drama Section last week.
All students from Kinder to Year Six have been busy learning and practising their poems this term.
Kinder, Year One and Year Two were all given a set poem for their year group, while years three to six were able to choose either their own humorous poem or the set poem for their year.
Tuesday May 29 saw Kinder, Year One and Year Two on the program for their Set Poems.
Kinder’s poem was ‘The Dish and the Spoon’ by Dulcie Meadows. Year One students performed ‘Spaghetti’, by Annette Kosseris. ‘Thanks A Lot’ by Robyn Klein was the set poem for Year Two.
Year Three and Four were up on Wednesday May 30 with Year Three performing ‘The Polished Cockroach’ by Dora Friendship as their Set Poem and Year Four students recited ‘Concert Night’ by Katherine Blowen.
Harley Budden chose his own humorous poem which featured in the middle session. Lachlan Miller also performed some individual items including both the set poem and humorous poem, the prepared speech and solo mime for Year Four.
Thursday May 31 was Year Five and Year Six’s turn to present their chosen Humorous Poems for the judges.
All students performed well and received encouraging feedback from the Adjudicator to take on board in preparation for next year’s Eisteddfod.
Bethany Cooper received third place for her Kindergarten Set Poem recital and Lachlan Miller and Gordie Cooper were awarded Highly Commended Awards for their Respective Set Poems.
Lachlan also came away with first place in his Prepared Speech on his favourite dessert and second place in his Solo Mime – fishing.

Overall, this year’s Narrabri Eisteddfod was very successful for Bellata Public School and the staff and students should be commended for all their hard work and commitment to make sure their performances and poetry items were well rehearsed. Well done!
