He may the the youngest member of the Whibley family, but six-year-old Edward Whibley came away with the best result from Sydney, placing second in the pee wee (eight years and under) section of the 2018 R.M. Williams AWPA Australian Whipcracking Championships.
Edward was one of five competitors in the pee wee competition, with the winner two years his senior.
Twelve-year-old Sophia Whibley improved on her performance at last year’s championships, placing third in the juvenile (eight to 12 years) competition, and beating younger sister Georgia (11), who came in fifth.
Finally, 15-year-old Paris placed fifth in the junior (16 years and under) competition, coming in behind family friend Henry Pitman who has retained his Australian title for another year.
This was the second time the Whibleys have competed in the national championships, with each improving on their results from the previous year.
Each of them also competed in the open World Bullock Whip Championship for fun.
In September last year they also competed in the NSW titles at the Deni Ute Muster, which saw Edward win, Sophia place second, Georgia third and Paris come in fifth.
Mum Lisa Whibley said each of the children love going away and competing.
“It’s fun; I love going to the shows and seeing all the people,” Georgia said.
“I enjoy the travelling and the different places we go,” Sophia added.
Leading up to competitions, the Whibleys practice twice a day, some days with more enthusiasm than others.
“They’re like all kids, they do enjoy it and get out and do it, but some days I have to push them to do it,” Mrs Whibley said.
The Whibleys will enjoy a month off to recharge the batteries before getting back into practice for the Queensland state titles in June.
