Mrs Bartel said the week is all about recognising Moree’s senior citizens and celebrating all they do for our community.
“So many of our seniors have done so much and have never been credited for,” she said.
“It’s a time for them to relax and celebrate their lives and all they’ve been through.”
This year NSW Seniors Festival is celebrating 60 years and the theme, ‘Let’s do more together’, encourages seniors to be active, social and healthy.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the festival provides seniors with the opportunity to get involved in their communities and enjoy all the benefits that come from that participation.
“The role of seniors in NSW is valued and celebrated through this festival of events, and the NSW Government acknowledges the commitment and dedication of seniors, who make NSW the great place that it is,” she said.
The first event on Moree’s program will be a church service and afternoon tea at Fairview Retirement Village at 2pm on Sunday, April 8.
The week will continue on Monday, April 9 with Pius X Aboriginal Corporation’s annual bingo and morning tea event at 10.30am, featuring entertainment by Kiah Preschool.
On Tuesday, April 10 Moree Community Library will host an author talk by Noel Braun, as well as a morning tea at 10.30am.
The main event for the week will be the luncheon at Moree Services Club from 10.30am on Wednesday, April 11. The luncheon will include a two course lunch, entertainment by Peter Denevon and of course the presentation of Moree Plains Shire Council’s Senior Citizen of the Year award.
The fun will continue on Friday with bingo at Respite House in Edward Street from 10.30am. Lunch will be provided by Moree Secondary College cooking class.
The week will end with a bang on Saturday, April 14, beginning with a barbecue lunch by Moree Lions Club at the home of Rob and Lorraine Bartel, “Illabo” 365 Gwydirfield Road, from 11am.
Finally, a mixed triple bowls night will be held at Moree Services Club at 6pm, with a supper provided by Moree Services Ladies Bowling Club.
