The competition aims to find a young female ambassador for the Moree district who has a genuine interest in, and knowledge of rural NSW, whilst allowing them the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills, confidence and become more involved within their community.
So far, no-one has entered this year’s competition and Ms Rohde said if entries aren’t forthcoming over the next few weeks, she has no problem putting the competition on hold until show season next year.
“I know everyone’s busy, but it’s such a nice thing to do,” she said.
“It’s confidence-building, networking and it can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to extend yourself out of your comfort zone.
“It’s also skill-building; these girls learn to speak to an audience which can take you a long way in any business you’re in.
“You also meet wonderful people; the people in the show society are the cream of the crop in rural areas. It’s a marvelous opportunity.”
Ms Rohde said last year's showgirl, Kate Lumber, has been a great example of the success you can achieve as part of the competition, with Kate preparing to represent the region in The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl competition after winning the Zone Four final.
“She had a fabulous time and has won some amazing prizes,” Ms Rohde said.
“Now she gets to represent our area in the Sydney Royal competition, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
To be eligible, entrants must be female aged 18 years to under 25 years as of May 1, 2019 and reside, be educated or work within the Moree district for at least three months prior to the competition, to qualify to complete at state level.
Entries close on Friday, April 13.
