They give consumers a minimum of three years to redeem the gift cards in NSW, and outlaw post-purchase fees and charges, which can eat into the balance.
The government estimates the reforms will put up to $60 million back in the hands of shoppers that’s currently lost to retailers through unused balances on expired gift cards.
