This will be the first time the MHERV will visit Moree as part of its first tour around NSW, during which the purpose-built caravan will visit 56 centres, finishing in Wellington in May 2018.
MHERV is a Rotary project supported by the Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution (RFBI), Mazda Australia and the state government.
The van has two consulting rooms and a full-time registered nurse who, with the assistance of a male nurse from Moree Community Health, will conduct five-minute non-invasive tests on rural men.
The tests include blood pressure to check the heart, blood sugar levels to check for diabetes and cholesterol to check levels. Men will also be provided with a bowel scan kit to do at home.
Moree Rotary Club president Mary Reiner encourages all men, particularly those over 30, to take advantage of this free community service.
“An early check can save lives,” she said.
“It’s quite a vital health service.”
The van will be parked at the Harvey Norman carpark from 9am to 5pm on Friday, September 22 and from 9am to 12 noon on Saturday, September 23. It will be at Moree Services Club from 1pm to 5pm Saturday afternoon.
