The announcement was a perfect way to wrap up two-days of action-packed fun for the showgirl entrant.
Kate was thankful to be given a platform to air agricultural issues.
“Being involved in the agricultural industry, I am passionate about this district and the many issues growers face including eliminating variability and Murray Darling Basin Authority buybacks,” she said.
Describing the showgirl experience so far as “phenomenal”, Kate looked forward to continuing her showgirl duties at Zone 4 Showgirl Finals and possibly even at the Sydney Royal Easter Show next year.
“I’ve always been involved in rural shows growing up, I’ve even competed at Sydney. Usually I’m on the other side of the fence riding horses and showing cattle,” she laughed.
After studying rural science in Armidale, Miss Lumber picked up part-time agronomy work in Moree.
“For the past two years I’ve been in Moree full time and I finally feel settled. Showgirl is something I’ve always wanted to do so this year I thought why not,” she said.
Kate thanked her fellow showgirl entrants, showgirl runner-up Jennifer Kennett, Miss Personality Kaitlyn Weeks and Miss Personality runner-up Annabel Nolan.
“The girls are fantastic and this whole showgirl process has been an unforgettable experience,” she said.
Kate, Jennifer and Kaitlyn spent Friday and Saturday helping out at numerous show events, from the rodeo gates to showjumping and everything in between.
The entrants had a first-hand look into how much hard work was put into each and every show by the Moree Show Society.
“I believe showgirl is a great opportunity for both personal and professional growth and I am honoured to represent Moree at the finals.
“I would like to be a positive role model for young rural women and women in agriculture,” Kate said.
Kate also thanked the show society’s committee for their behind-the-scenes work and the sponsors.
