Moree Community Library has invited the town to take part in the One Million Stars to End Violence project, weaving paper stars to be displayed together as a powerful anti-violence statement.
Organiser Sarah Dean said she was inspired by “the fact that it was reaching across so many different communities and that they were all getting together and having a go”.
The library will set up a ‘weave station’ on Friday, where locals can collect materials and learn how to weave a star. The station will remain until late June.
Sarah encouraged groups and individuals to take a stand against violence.
“I think it’s an issue here and everywhere,” she said, adding that physical violence wasn’t the only problem.
“There’s verbal or against your culture or your religious beliefs, psychological violence. Nowadays violence is inescapable, because you can go home, but you’ve still got it online.”
