From November 21 to November 25, I dumped the school books and took up a notebook and camera at Moree Champion for the week.

Journalists Sophie Harris and Laini Kirkman have both taken me under their wings and have showed me the ropes in this career path. I have learnt a textbook full of skills such as basic photography and the techniques involved with interviewing and journalism writing.
As I’m new to town, Moree Champion has really opened my eyes and has shown me some of the many community events. My work experience has shown me the outside of the school fence that I’m not accustomed to; and that is something I’m really grateful for.
Laini and Sophie have both taught me what it is like to be a journalist and I believe that I could consider this as a future career path. However, I do believe that journalists have a tougher job than what I first anticipated.
I have covered the White Ribbon day, St Philomena’s Beyond Blue Bash and Target Christmas appeal with Sophie, I have taken photos for Mitre10 asbestos awareness day with Laini, and have written about fellow student’s work experience over the week, the Country Women’s Association giving school scholarships, Q&A with Svetlana Aksenova and the reminder of the SES recruitment night.
My favourite part was probably the sense of achievement; when you work hard in getting a story, interviewing appropriate people, and then having that story published in the paper.
I can’t believe how lucky I have been this week, to be taken in by Moree Champion.
