The 2016 National Simultaneous Storytime book was "I got this hat," and while Mayor Katrina Humphries was on hand to read to the Gwydir Day Care and Preschool students, the Moree Community Library made sure the schools, day cares and family daycare facilities also got involved sending out craft and information kits weeks in advance.
Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, promote the value and fun of books, give publicity to an Australian writer and publisher, promote storytime activities in public libraries and communities around the country and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
"Particularly falling during Library and Information Week, it is a great way to get the community involved," said Kristy Moody from the Moree Community Library.
