The funding came thanks to the Aussie Cotton Farmers Grow Communities grants program, in partnership with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
In a significant boost to education $20,000 was received by educational groups.
The organisations that received the grants include:
• Boomi Artesian Baths for installing a removable staircase in the community pool which will enable the elderly, disabled and mothers with small children to safely enter and exit the pool
• Boomi Community Cooperative, which is putting the funds towards the installation of a solar system on the community convenience store
• Tulloona Public School P and C Association, who will be able to offer a subsidised transport program
• Croppa Creek Bowling Club, which is upgrading the club kitchen
• Garah P and C, who is using the grants to enhance students’ educational outcomes and supporting the community reading program run by parents and community members
• Gwydir District Mobile Pre-school, which is using the funds to enable the communities of Moree, Garah, Boomi, Bellata, Mallawa, Pallamallawa and Croppa Creek to access early childhood education
• Mungindi Community Preschool to enable children with learning disabilities to access early childhood education in their community.
The community groups were nominated by local cotton growers, as a way for them to say thanks to the communities that support them, year in year out.
