“Back in Gallipoli, there were about 1000 soldiers who had a connection with Moree but unfortunately about 200 didn’t come home,” president Michael McNamara said.
The plan is to have three books come out on sale over the next five years or so, with the first one to focus on Gallipoli and be on sale prior to Anzac Day in 2015.
“Gallipoli was where Australia first found its niche in the scheme of things and we felt we needed a new project to get involved with, so we came up with this idea,” Mr McNamara said.
“We want to include as many people as possible who had a connection to Gallipoli around this area and stories of any description are welcome.”
It is expected the first book will be about 70 pages and will sell for between $20 and $25.
“We will print it in Moree and will use it as a fundraiser for ongoing projects.

If you are mailing any information, they ask that “WW1 Book” is written on the back of the envelope so the information can be directed to the book committee.
A form is available at the Moree Community Library to fill in the relevant information.
The second book will concentrate on the other theatres of war in France and Belgium while a third book will cover the other battles in which Moree men and women may have served.
The association is looking for any information that people may have concerning their relatives who enlisted in Moree from 1914 to about October 1915.
