On Thursday, mayor Katrina Humphries drew barrier four for Moree, which is one of 24 regional towns chosen to take part in the 2020 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep.
Barrier four was then drawn by last year's Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare, in the official barrier draw on Saturday.
If Vow and Declare wins the 2020 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, Moree will win $50,000 for the Northern NSW Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - its chosen charity in the national sweep.
Moree Race Club secretary Michelle Gobbert said she's not sure if it's an advantage that Vow and Declare won the Cup last year or not, but either way it's exciting.
"You never know in the Melbourne Cup," she said.
"A one in 24 chance is still pretty good for Moree to win $50,000."
