It’s the second year running that Moree will be hosting the event and it’s set to attract around 400 riders.
“Last year’s 250 Supercross champion Jay Wilson, he’ll come have a run at it and that will be good to see,” MMC president Matt Anderson said.
“Other previous qualifiers, (Moree’s) Dylan and Oliver Marchand. They’ve done quite well at that event.
“Most of our club members will be attending and racing. We hope that the hard work they’ve been putting in training on the track should start to pay off for those local riders.”
It’s an event which Anderson said will be “excellent for the town.”
“We had it last year as well but we’ve got the second round of it this year, we were the last round last year. So we should get a few extra riders.”
The club have recently been busy building a brand new stadium cross track at their club complex.
“Last year I proposed that we build a stadium cross track. Stadium cross is basically like a stepping stone for the supercross,” Anderson said.
“Motocross is an open track with a few jumps, supercross is a tight circuit with huge jumps. Stadium cross is an in between, it’s a good stepping stone, particularly for younger riders, they can transition a lot easier.”
The track itself was completed in December but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
“We’ve still got to fine tune it and readdress it once it rains and roll it in, apply lights,” Anderson said.
“We’re hoping to get a government grant, or someone to sponsor it. At this stage, once we get it up and running, the big picture is to race the track at night.
“It’s going to be a lot of hard work to get it to that stage. The track itself is completed but we need some rain before we can get it up and running.
“We’re very excited for our club to have that track.”
Anderson said their motocross track and the NSW state qualifiers have been the main draw card in Moree but he’s hoping the new stadium cross track will follow suit.
Anderson says the new track will be one of only a few in the country that is permanent.
“I only know of three other permanent stadium tracks in Australia,” he said.
“The rest are usually built the week before whereas Moree’s is going to be permanent and hopefully we can run some major events in Moree.”
Additionally, the MMC will also be hosting a round of the MX Nationals in July, which is the biggest motocross race in Australia.
“That will bring a couple thousand people to the town. It’s going to be a real eye opener and really great for Moree. Australia’s best riders will come and race in that,” Anderson said.
It will be another race that will feature Dylan and Oliver Marchand.
“They’ll get to race at their home track for a change. It’ll be good to see it come to their track and even it out and hopefully they do well and hopefully the town will cheer them on.
“It’s going to be huge for the town. It’s not just an everyday thing, this is massive for Moree.”
