Local residents shared the reuse and recycle message at the inaugural Moree Second-Hand Market and Car-Boot Sale at Jellicoe Park last Saturday which was hosted by Moree Plains Shire Council.

More than 30 individuals registered for the local event as part of the National Garage Sale Trail – a nationwide waste management campaign that encourages community members to reduce the amount of unwanted, but usable items ending up in landfill.
Council’s Waste Support Officer, Dayna Kross explained this was the first year Moree Plains Shire Council had hosted a community event in partnership with Northern Inland Regional Waste (NIRW) and the Garage Sale Trail and deemed it a huge success!
“Thank you to the stall holders and savvy shoppers who supported the event and made it a success – everyone’s a winner!”
“Stallholders were able to sell items they didn’t want and pocket some cash; buyers found some great bargains and a whole lot of pre-loved items were recycled in the community and did not end up at the landfill!”
“The Second-Hand Market and Car-Boot Sale really motivated people to declutter and having the event in a public space with lots of other stallholders provided a market atmosphere.”
“We are pleased that this event helped turned someone’s trash into another’s treasure and this is the basis of the reuse movement – the best way to recycle!” said Ms Kross.
Garage Sale Trail is a grass roots idea that was born in Bondi Beach in 2010 as means to encourage reuse, celebrate creativity and bring local people together, and Moree Plains Shire Council was proud to be part of this year’s Garage Sale Trail campaign.
