Sunday, July 29 is National Tree Day, and this year Moree Plains Shire Council will be commemorating the occasion with a focus on the township of Gurley.

The community is encouraged to take part in the day, which runs from 10am to 12pm and will involve the planting of 25 ti trees and 25 bottle brushes.
Council’s Planning and Building Manager Glen Pereira explained that it should be a great family friendly morning, which will culminate in a barbecue to thank all the community volunteers.
“National Tree Day provides us with a great excuse to make a positive impact on our local environment,” he said.

“This year we will be concentrating our efforts on the Gurley park, tennis court and town hall area, and we encourage as many community members to come down and participate in beautifying the township and improving the environment for generations to come.”
Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, hats and gloves, and will be rewarded for their hard-earned efforts with a barbecue, a drinking container and cap.
