Alex will make a splash at the All Schools Swimming Championship on May 11, after a stellar performance at the qualifying NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Swimming Championship.
The swimming enthusiast not only came second in the 50m breastroke event, but also smashed a personal best.
“I swam in 34 seconds, which beat my previous score of 35 seconds,” he said.
Even though it will be the first time Alex has made it to the final stage of the state championships, it’s far from his first time in a highly-competitive environment.
“I started swimming for fun when I was about 10 years old, and then I started racing in competitions when I was about 12,” he said.

Seasoned trainer Angela Walker has since taken the swimmer under her wing and put in place a strict training regimen that has challenged Alex on all fronts.
“In the school holidays, I started training at 9 in the morning. I would swim for one-and-a-half hours to work on my fitness, dives, techniques and similar areas. Now that school is back, I start training at 6.45 every morning. I train about five days a week,” Alex said.
Though, the hardworking swimming champ admits it’s not always easy to get out of bed.
“Even if you don’t want to train, you still have to do it. You just think about what you want at the end of it all, and I would like to think I can become a professional swimmer,” Alex said.
So, how does one of Moree’s best swimmers feel as he prepares to head into the highly-competitive state-level swim event?
“I’m pumped, excited, and also a little nervous,” he laughed.
Whatever the outcome, it’s safe to say Alex has already done Moree proud.
