The Inland Rail is the final piece to the national freight network between Melbourne and Brisbane, passing via Wagga Wagga, Parkes, Narromine, Moree and Toowoomba.
The mammoth railway line measures 1,700km, making it the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia.
It will transform the transportation of goods throughout the country, supporting Australia’s four richest farming regions: Darling Downs (QLD), West Moreton (QLD), Northern NSW and Goulburn Valley (Victoria).
Around 16,000 jobs will be created during the peak period of construction, and a further 700 jobs each year once the railway line is operational.
With projections of freight volumes set to double come 2030, and triple at the arrival of 2050, Moree will form an integral part of the intermodal freight solution, being the junction of three main highways; the heart of Australia’s premier agricultural region; industrially zoned land with highway and rail access; reliable air services to Sydney and Brisbane and a gateway to the New England for Inland Rail.
