THROWBACK: Moree isolated by 2012 floods

Moree made national news in February 2012, as the shire faced a one in 100 year flood.

More than 100mm of rain fell during a 24-hour period on the first of Feburary, cutting off the main bridge, dividing the town in two.

Flood water swept through local homes and businesses, as SES and other emergency services worked to ensure the safety of local families.

In the weeks to follow, clean up efforts began and the Governor General Quentin Bryce flew in to meet locals.

She wasn’t the only famous political figure visiting, Prime Minister Julia Gillard also flew in on February 11 to meet Mayor Katrina Humphries and receive a briefing from local emergency services.
