Mr Williams returned for another stint in the role of president of Moree Legacy at the annual changeover and thank you dinner, held at Moree Town and Country Club on Monday night.
Sydney Legacy president Paul Lane, his wife, Women’s Auxiliary president Neroli, and head of fundraising Mark Slater made the trip to Moree to attend the dinner.
With all but one of the executive committee returning to their roles, this year’s changeover dinner was more about thanking the individuals and groups who have supported Legacy.
“Legacy’s very grateful for what they do so we just like to thank them,” Mr Williams said. “The people of Moree are very generous.”
The only new addition to Moree Legacy’s executive committee is Rob Long, who stepped up to the position of vice president this year.
Secretary Patrick Down, treasurer Kevin King and welfare officer Bruce Carter have returned to their positions for another term.
Mr Williams, who’s been involved with Legacy for 37 years, said he’s looking forward to supporting local war widows for another year.
“The biggest thing is being able to look after widows of men who served and check they’re okay,” he said.
“That’s the greatest thing, it’s what Legacy’s all about.”
Legacy currently supports 33 widows in Moree. Last year Moree Legacy raised $15,000 for local widows.
More than 50 people attended the dinner, enjoying a lovely meal and a talk by guest speaker, Professor Gerard Fogarty from Toowoomba who spoke about military pyschology issues.
